Brie Larson Shines as Captain Marvel

This supercharged, action-packed female-driven blockbuster is up there with some of my favourite movies of 2019 so far. A new era for Marvel has now been confirmed.

Brie Larson is an amazing actress, she has an Oscar, a Golden Globe and a Bafta for Best Actress for her performance in Room (2016). She was pretty perfect as Captain Marvel, for me she demonstrated strength, determination and independence but still keeping feminine charm and wit.

Captain Marvel has been a major success both critically and financially, it has reached just over $700 million at the worldwide box office to date and is set to cross a billion in the coming weeks. The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) now has 21 movies in its catalogue with more on the way, there is just no stopping them! It will be interesting to see how Avengers: Endgame blows up the film industry in April.

This movie is aimed at a female audience for sure but still keeps the Marvel flag flying for all fans.

This feature has all the basic functionalities of any good Marvel superhero movie so we technically know how it’s going to play out, right? Despite this, the turns to a new hero, Air Force Pilot Carol Danvers. We are transported back to the 1990’s and there is an intergalactic war between two alien races. An elite group of warriors from the planet Kree must seek out the perpetrators and bring them to justice.  Incidentally, they all end up on planet Earth and S.H.I.E.L.D know about it.

Not yet Captain Marvel or, officially the most powerful superhero in the whole entire universe, Carol, is cosmically paired up with a one, Nick Fury. I loved the on-screen chemistry between Carol and Fury, there was warmth and sincerity throughout their interactions and the sense of a blossoming friendship between the two.

Without spoiling anything, let’s just say that Carol, now Captain Marvel has a bright new future ahead and is part of something magnificent – if you haven’t seen the film please stay for the post-credit scene. Go watch this film is badass!

Thanks for reading, leave a comment if your 100% ready for Endgame.
