The Witcher is without a shadow of a doubt, one of the most anticipated shows of the year from Netflix. The show has matched the popularity of The Mandalorian (Disney Plus), has been the subject to many a hilarious meme and, coveted a new hoard of excited fans. Yes, the interweb went totally bonkers for Henry Cavill as monster slayer Geralt of Rivia and hopped on board that hype train that is The Witcher.
1. Henry Cavill
In Netflix’s new fantasy original, Superman (Henry Cavill) has been officially transformed into a gloomy, sword-wielding, monster-slaying hunk. Totally worthy of your spare time, Cavill’s stern demeanour will have you fixated on the series from start to finish or, [SPOILER] finish to start.
2. More Original Fantasy
Game of Thrones fans rejoice! The fantasy series from Netflix will help fill that gaping hole in your life that GOT ripped open. The Witcher displays a lot of similar traits as GOT and, in its complexity, you will find yourself completely immersed in this new fantasy universe and inevitably, asking a LOT of questions. The success of The Witcher may lead the way for more original fantasy TV/Film from the streaming giant.
3. Breaking the Internet
With an internet presence to match that of Disney’s The Mandalorian, isn’t this worth the watch just to peek your curiosity? This show’s marketing has been insane in terms of breaking the internet and for that, we applaud the Netflix marketing team. The memes alone are absolute gold. Not to mention the general buzz and hype the series received across social platforms and film websites.
4. New Talent
One of the refreshing aspects of watching a Netflix original production is that they often introduce a lot of new aspiring talent to our small screens. This is both an opportunity for the actors and the audience and that of which is supportive of emerging talent in an non-traditional sense. We are introduced to some of the main characters in the series; Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg, Freya Allan as Princess Cirilla and Joey Batey as Jaskier (see more at IMDb).
5. Book-to-Screen Adaptation
Dating back to the 1990s, the books based on the Netflix show were created and written by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. If you are interested in reading these novels, it is important to know that the first two are actually a collection of short stories.
The Last Wish (1993)
Sword of Destiny (1992)
Season of Storms (2013)
Blood of Elves (1994)
Time of Contempt (1995)
Baptism of Fire (1996)
The Tower of the Swallow (1997)
The Lady of the Lake (1999)
6. Multi-Faceted & Inter-Dimensional
One of the main reasons to watch this little gem is that it is exceedingly complex. However, this shouldn’t put you off watching as there are plenty of other features that will grab your attention. it is a series worth the conversation and discussion that we guarantee you will want to have.
7. That Song!
CLICK ABOVE TO PLAY
Oh valley of plenty… OK, OK, if you haven’t heard this song yet then now you can indulge. A word of precautionary warning though, you will be absolutely hooked and utterly irritated by this magical tune. If this doesn’t want to make you watch the show afterwards then perhaps nothing ever will.
8. A Gamers Paradise
Did you know? The Witcher is actually a trilogy of video games? You can find the games for PC, Xbox One, Playstation and Nintendo Switch. As with any good franchise, this universe already comes equipped with a series of books and video games, it is only a matter of time before a full range of Witcher swag becomes available.
9. Totally Binge-worthy
Officially add this to your watch list right now. Go on, you know you want to. With each episode lasting around 60mins (8 episodes, season 1) you will get through this in no time. Although depending upon your fantasy genre experience/knowledge, you may need to re-watch a few episodes.
10. Multiple Seasons Coming
The Internet has spoken. After all, how can Netflix not produce more seasons after the way social media responded to the fair-haired Cavill as Geralt and this exciting new buzz-worthy fantasy series? The show’s producers will be able to collect all fan reactions, thoughts and feelings, and infuse them into future seasons to make the viewing experience truly, out of this world.
